Antônio de Dedé

Antônio Alves dos Santos was born in 1953, in Lagoa da Canoa, Alagoas, where he has lived and worked. He belonged to a Quilombola remaining community. Instinctive wood sculptor, his favorite subjects are animals and imaginary characters: jaguars, bulls, cats, deer, elephants, dancers, couples in unique pieces, usually carved in cedar and rich polychrome.

His work is reproduced in the book “Brazilian Popular Art”, volume II, by Décor-SP.

He died in 2017.
