The most talented student of João das Alagoas had a dream that gave her much agony. Maria Luciene da Silva Siqueira, SIL, was born in 1979, in Cajueiro, Alagoas, but was raised in Capela. So she had little choice but to work on the cane field or the sugar mill. “Since I was a little girl, I dreamed that my hand was getting very rough and I needed to wipe it in a cloth. It looked like she was picking on something, but she did not know what it was. When she woke up, she was holding the sheet in her hand. For a time she stopped, but then she came back and it was like that. “She was out of work with a small son, and she learned that someone was teaching crafts there. “Believe me, when I saw the work with clay, that feeling I had in the dream came back. It was only when I got in the mud to learn that I understood my dream. The feeling I felt was that of clay. For my dream to be realized I was missing only João das Alagoas to teach me. “In four years of apprenticeship, she was equal to the master. Quickly, she began to carve what her heart commanded. Today, you are absolutely sure that you will not be able to live without modelling clay. “You know, at the beginning, I fought hard not to get copied from João. I had to get my own thing that was really mine and I think I got it.”
