Ismael Nery
Ismael Nery was born in Belém do Para, Brazil, in 1900. In 1909 he moved with his family to Rio de Janeiro. From 1920 to 1929 he traveled twice to Europe where he took contact with the Surrealists, the Metaphysicians and the Cubists. He went also to Argentina e Uruaguay before getting sick and dying of tuberculosis at age 33. His work remained unknown to the public until 1965 when he participated for the first time to the São Paulo Biennial. Since then he has been considered one o f the greatest Brazilian artist of any time.
