Lourdes Barreto

The painter Lourdes Barreto (1956, Salvador-BA) is a professor of The Painting Course at the School of Fine Arts, UFRJ. Since 1976 she has participated in collective events and has held solo exhibitions in galleries and cultural centers in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre. In the last years she has realized murals in Brazil, like in the factory of the Unilever (Valinhos); in Belgium, Université Catholique de Louvain-La-Neuve .; the Library of the Health Sciences Center, the Leopoldode Meis, at Escola de Belas Artes, at Universidade Federal do Rio de janeiro. She received the IBEU travel award to New York as “the best exhibition of the Year of 1999”. Currently, her works have been published in Magazines, Sites, Catalogs and Literary Notebooks. Her production is intense and expressive, according to the artist and professor Adir Botelho. Her painting “is the passionate plastic expression of the art of pure instinct, something rooted in culture, in the experience of who knows well what does”.
